2008 Olivier Leflaive "Les Setilles" Tasting Notes

Pale gold color in glass. (13% alcohol) .Nice, soft bouquet. Good fruit and body on palate. Sort of a hybrid between a California Chardonnay and French white Burgundy. Well made if not too complex. No matchstick as feared. Ready to drink now. 88/100.

Yesterday I spotted this jaybird walking through the neighborhood. Never seen him before.  As you may know from previous posts, there have been a number of burglaries in the area so I have upgraded all my locks and installed deadbolts. It was cold and windy yesterday yet he wears a tank top. 

Another one bites the dust.

Let me just first say that I am not a supporter of Barack Obama. I did not and will not vote for him. But he is tough on terrorists and those who help them. He had the Somali pirates taken out, he got Osama Bin Laden, and now Gadahfi is gone. Remember when the Berlin Wall fell everyone was predicting sweetness and light? The Middle East is still a work in progress.   Maybe, as some say, Obama just got out of the way and let Seal Team 6 and others do the job. Yet, one wonders if Saddam Hussein were still in power if this "Arab Spring" would have ever happened. If not, then George Bush started the process that led to Gadahfi's demise. Yes, it's all Bush's fault. Just sayin'. Stay tuned.

St. George, S.C. Post Card

I haven't found any postcards from Greenville recently but I did find this postcard mailed in 1908 from St. George to Summerville, S.C., which is about 30 miles away towards Charleston. Bought it on eBay. Note the sign above the woman reading "ST. GEORGE BOTTLING WORKS" and the ice cream parlor below that. When we vacation at the Brosnan Forest, we pass through St. George. Its not a sleepy little Southern town any more since I-95 came through.

2004 Bogle Phantom Tasting Notes

54 % Petite Sirah, 43% Old Vine Zinfandel, 3% Old Vine Mourvedre. 14.8% alcohol. Virtually opaque garnet color in glass. Spicey, chocolatey fruit in bouquet. Huge, mouthfilling fruit on palate. No distracting heat or acidity. Concentrated, intense and yes, a fruit bomb, but a great fruit bomb. Close to peak and should hold another 4-5 years at least. 90/100.
